Stockton 2s hosted Newcastle 2s and started off strong enjoying a lot of the ball, eventually Matty, our croc-loving midfielder, opened up the scoring with a tomahawk hit to take a 1-0 lead, with a lots of end to end play it was an exciting game with no shortage of attacking play, some brilliant defending on both sides. Newcastle then found their forward on a long ball who rode through multiple challenges from Stockton defenders getting a shot off that was saved but only to fall back at Newcastle’s stick and then slotted home around Marcus.
The second half started much like the first, Stockton enjoying the lions share of possession with a fair few shots just going wide they certainly had Newcastle on their heels. After a scramble in front of goal Stockton thought they had captured their second only to have it ruled as saved on the line by the umpire, a controversial decision Stockton thought but battled on. Newcastle had their share of chances keeping Stockton honest and scrambling back to defend, after a shot was cleared Stockton began a quick and swift counterattack finding Jamie who drove forward and calmly slotted home Stockton’s second goal. With less than 10 to go Stockton found themselves defending attack after attack from Newcastle, in the last few minutes Newcastle where awarded a short corner, which ended in a re-award, on the second the shot was wide and Stockton had a sigh of relief, some good possession to see out the half and win the game 2-1.
A well fought game from both sides.
