Newcastle 4–1 Stockton
Stockton Ladies took to the field with a new formation and began brightly, dominating possession and creating several early chances. The new setup looked promising, with excellent movement through midfield and debutant forward Lana impressing up front.
Despite the strong start, Newcastle struck first from a penalty corner against the run of play. Stockton regrouped and continued to press, but another short corner saw the hosts double their lead before halftime.
After a positive team talk, Stockton came out firing. Lana’s tireless running and determination were rewarded when Maria won back possession, fed Jessica down the wing, whose cross found Lana to calmly slot home and bring Stockton back into the game.
Momentum was with the visitors as they earned a short corner, with Dmoly’s reverse flick cleared off the line. Frustration grew as near misses from Zoey and others couldn’t quite find the net. Newcastle then capitalised on a break, forcing a goal-line save from Tara before scoring on the rebound, later adding a fourth to seal the result.
Despite the scoreline, Stockton showed real promise with their new system, fighting to the final whistle and showing clear signs of growth.
